Paying Oopbuy by card from the UK: logos, routing and disputes

The footer shows a strip of card logos. What happens when you actually pay by card is less obvious, and two of the official card pages were plainly written for somewhere else.

01The card logos in Oopbuy's footer

Every Oopbuy page ends with a payment row: PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Diners Club, Wise, UnionPay, a bank transfer badge and a PCI security mark. Above it, the Payment column links four pages: Top up, International Credit Card, PayPal and Klarna.

A logo in a footer tells you a scheme is accepted somewhere in the payment flow. It does not tell you which screen offers it, or what it costs. American Express and JCB, for example, appear in the Top up text but not in the logo row.

02Card checkout runs through PayPal's card form

An FAQ about matching addresses explains the route. If you do not have a PayPal account and want to pay by debit or credit card, choose "International Credit Card" at the cashier, then enter the card details and a PayPal delivery address that matches your Oopbuy parcel address.

So a card payment is processed through PayPal's guest card form. Oopbuy does not state whether the 4.5% + $0.30 PayPal top-up fee applies to it. Read the total on the card screen before you confirm, and compare it with the order amount.

03What a sterling card adds before Oopbuy's own fee

Your UK card is charged in a foreign currency, so its terms apply first. Many debit and credit cards add a non-sterling transaction fee; some cards designed for travel do not. The figure is in your card's terms or banking app, and it is set by your bank, not by Oopbuy.

You may also be offered a choice at checkout between paying in pounds, converted by PayPal, or in dollars, converted by your card. Accepting one rate means declining the other. Neither choice is published by Oopbuy, so we leave the numbers to your screen and your statement.

Do not apply a foreign help-page promise to a UK card

The preserved International Credit Card notice uses a dollar-denominated liability example and overseas wording. It does not establish the protection on your UK card or how a particular agent top-up is covered.

If a charge is unauthorised, contact your card provider promptly through its official channel. Keep the payment record and follow the issuer’s evidence and reporting process.

Account restrictions and payment disputes are separate

The historical Oopbuy FAQ says disputes or chargebacks can restrict account functions. Keep that operational consequence in mind, but do not cancel a valid dispute simply to regain access without understanding your provider’s position.

Preserve order, payment and support records. Contact account support about the restriction, and ask your card issuer promptly about applicable claim options and deadlines. A claim outcome is specific to its facts.

06An older card list that names another platform

One FAQ entry, "How to use a credit card for Shplii recharge", says Oopbuy supports four card types for recharging: Visa, Master, Diner and Discover. It then walks through logging in to "Shplii", opening My Assets, and choosing a card.

Shplii is not Oopbuy, and the card list differs from the Top up page (which names American Express and JCB instead of Diners and Discover). We read it as text carried over from another site's help centre. Use the Top up page and the screen in front of you, not this entry.

Section 75 and chargeback: check the actual transaction

The Financial Ombudsman Service explains that the parties and payment arrangement can affect Section 75 coverage. A card-funded agent balance is not enough information to decide a particular claim.

Ask the lender or card issuer to assess the transaction and provide the receipt, terms and correspondence. Chargeback has its own conditions and time limits. Read the Ombudsman’s current guidance, checked 18 October 2026.
